College Prep
As you get ready for college, it's important to expand your network, develop your skill-set, and build a professional resume that gives the university or potential employers an honest representation of your skills and abilities.
Join School Clubs:
Join 1-3 clubs depending on your interests and available time. Becoming a member will open the door for networking opportunities, educational resources, and potential employment. Also, you may be given a chance to become a leader in one of the organizations - if so, take it.
Join Professional Organizations:
Get involved with the local chapters of professional organizations that are aligned with your chosen career path, i.e., Society for Petroleum Engineers, Society for Woman Engineers, Society of Human Resource Management, to network with professionals in the field and learn more about your chosen career path.
Attend Seminar and Workshops:
Speak to your guidance counselor and teachers and search online to learn about professional and personal developmental opportunities and enroll in those that will advance your career. Seminars and workshops will help develop leadership and communication skills and enable students to network.
Build a Competitive Resume:
Resume templates can be found in Microsoft Word and online on sites such as collegegrad.com and sample-resume-template.com. Your university's career services site may have a resume template and offer one-on-one resume guidance.
