Canton, Ohio

The Canton refinery is located approximately 60 miles southeast of Cleveland, Ohio, and 90 miles west of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The refinery employs approximately 300 employees. History

The facility was built in 1931 as the Allegheny-Arrow Oil Company but was forced to close in 1932 during the economically troubled times of the Great Depression. It reopened in 1936 and was sold to the Allied Oil Company in 1937. In 1948, Ashland Oil Company acquired the facility and began the modernization that broadened the refinery’s market presence and widened its product offerings. In 1998, Ashland Inc. and Marathon Oil Company formed Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC and the Canton refinery became part of the new company's seven refinery system.
