WE WORK WITH CARE

Al Pace joined Marathon in 2004, shortly before the Notice to Proceed was issued for the Equatorial Guinea Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Train 1 Project. His Project Management Team (PMT) managed the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the LNG project and its associated infrastructure, including activities required for the new EG LNG company and its employees. The first cargo of LNG was shipped from the production facility in May 2007.

"Equatorial Guinea LNG is my first project for Marathon," said Pace. "The Company has provided me with a very interesting and challenging set of opportunities, with the complete support of executive management in the process.

"This project has been very successful for Marathon. We are particularly proud of our safety record, which is proof that strong owner-contractor leadership and teamwork produces results. Our PMT is also proud of the project performance, having executed the project under budget and five months ahead of schedule. Not only is this one of the fastest LNG projects ever from project concept to production, it included building the world's first suspension bridge for an LNG project. Adding to the team success is the bonus that the plant is now producing significantly more LNG than planned.

"As well as building facilities, we are building skills by training many Equatorial Guinean nationals working on the project. For example, our team has trained 535 people in various construction crafts and facilitated extensive on-the-job training. Moreover, I personally enjoyed having an opportunity to be able to mentor and positively grow several Marathon team members in their career paths during the project."

The Equatorial Guinea LNG project will produce clean, abundant energy for world markets, as well as positive economic benefits for the people of Equatorial Guinea. It is a significant achievement for Marathon and our partners. Pace takes pride in the Marathon team's contribution in realizing such an important project.
