• Marathon and its business partners teamed up with the Government of Equatorial Guinea and health specialists to develop an innovative, 5-year malaria control project on Bioko Island. In its first two years, the project succeeded in reducing malaria transmitting mosquitoes by 95 percent and the presence of malaria parasites in children by 44 percent. By the fifth year in 2008, the project has improved on its initial success by reducing malaria transmitting mosquitoes by 99 percent and the presence of malaria parasites in children by 49 percent, compared to pre-program levels. Marathon and partners have extended the Bioko Island Malaria Control Program for another 5-year period to ensure continued success through local project management and other capacity building.
• Marathon is working to help combat one of America's worst public health crises in our methamphetamine awareness and prevention campaign. In partnership with state and local officials, Marathon has responded to communities' requests for help in efforts to rid their citizens of methamphetamine exposure and abuse. To date the community-driven presentation has reached 13,500 people in six states.
