Stakeholder EngagementStakeholder engagement is the creation of relationships with internal and external stakeholders to seek cooperation and alignment of interests among affected parties. Marathon is committed to ongoing engagement with stakeholders through open dialogue. This proactive, two-way exchange of ideas and information between Marathon and its stakeholders on specific issues is essential to our long-term business planning, strategy and project execution. In 2007, Marathon introduced a formalized process for stakeholder engagement to support business needs. The process incorporates CSR-specific knowledge, best practices, skill sets and tools to help employees assess, select, define, implement and evaluate engagements. Issues raised by stakeholders are included in social risk assessments completed for all existing projects and operations worldwide. Social risk assessments help Marathon identify potential social issues that may impact performance. These analyses assist Marathon in prioritizing issues for action and implementing its broader CSR strategy. In 2009, Marathon will introduce a computer based tool that allows employees worldwide to share up-to-date information about stakeholders and specific engagements and identify priority stakeholder issues, trends and other key information to facilitate constructive engagements Company-wide. |
