Operations Review:
Marathon’s integrated gas business is adding value by linking stranded low-cost natural gas to available markets where natural gas demand is growing.
The cornerstone of this business segment is the Marathon-led Equatorial Guinea Train 1 LNG project. This facility is on a record-setting pace from project inception to first delivery of LNG, and is ahead of schedule to deliver 3.4 million metric tonnes of LNG per year beginning the third quarter of 2007 under a 17-year agreement. Marathon and its partners are exploring the feasibility of adding a second LNG train, creating a regional gas hub.
While LNG currently is the key component of Marathon’s integrated gas strategy, ultra-clean diesel will play an important role in the future. A major focus is on gas-to-liquids technology, and the Company is also developing expertise in gas-to-fuels and compressed natural gas technologies.
